Apple unveiled watchOS 10 at its annual WWDC presentation. The new version of the smartwatch OS gets a completely revamped interface with a greater focus on widgets. WatchOS 10 will be available this fall for Apple Watch Series 4 and later.
WatchOS 10 retains They are digital dials that display the time or clock. However, when users turn the Digital Crown, a new “smart suite” of widgets appears. According to Apple, these widgets show “clear” information, which users can swipe through using the crown.
According to Apple, the “stack” displays related widgets that “appear when you need them”. For example, in the morning, before users leave home, a widget with weather forecasts can be displayed. Tickets can be viewed from the Wallet app while traveling. The Calendar app can appear at the top of the stack to view upcoming meetings or tasks. Music or podcast apps can also be bumped up when actively used.
The various watchOS apps also get a new look, making better use of the screen surface. The Weather app, Apple Home, Apple Maps, Messages and Stocks, among others, will receive an updated interface. The Activity app and the Fitness app should also make it easier to track daily movement in more detail. Developers will also have the option to update their Apple Watch apps with similarly revamped interfaces.
Moreover, the way the buttons are used changes in watchOS 10. The Control Center in the new operating system is opened using the side button. With a double tap of the Digital Crown, users return to a recently used app. WatchOS 10 is also getting new watch faces, including a Palette watch face that changes color as the day progresses. Some Apple Watch apps have redesigned interfaces
The Workout app will get more advanced cycling metrics after the update. When you start a cycling workout, it automatically displays as a live activity on iPhones, optionally in full screen view. Users can view information such as heart rate, elevation differences and routes. According to Apple, the watch will also have the ability to automatically connect to cycling accessories, such as speed sensors, via Bluetooth.
Finally, the Apple Watch has new health functions. With the Mindfulness app, users can reflect on their state of mind by recording their feelings and moods. In the Health app on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, users will see help identifying where certain moods could be coming from, for example due to lifestyle factors like sleep and exercise.
Users can also get ratings for depression and anxiety to estimate their risk. It can be shared as a PDF with the doctor. In addition, watchOS will have a function to record the number of times the user is exposed to daylight. For this purpose, the operating system uses the Apple Watch ambient light sensor. WatchOS 10 will be available this fall, presumably at the same time as the Apple Watch Series 9. The new operating system is supported on Apple Watch Series 4 and later.
