Stan Kroenke Reportedly Plans $2.5 Billion Angels Stadium After MLB Team Purchase

Stan Kroenke Reportedly Plans .5 Billion Angels Stadium After MLB Team Purchase

Stan Kroenke is reportedly preparing to make major changes to the Los Angeles Angels, including plans for a new $2.5 billion ballpark, following his proposed purchase of the Major League Baseball franchise.

Kroenke Reportedly Buying Angels for $4.5 Billion

Arte Moreno tentatively agreed Tuesday to sell the American League West team to Kroenke at a valuation of $4.5 billion, according to Barry M. Bloom of Forbes.

The transaction is expected to be finalized in early 2027, pending approval from MLB. If completed, the deal would add another prominent professional sports franchise to Kroenke’s extensive portfolio.

Bloom also reported that Kroenke intends to build a $2.5 billion stadium to replace Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.

Aging Angel Stadium Could Be Replaced

Angel Stadium opened in 1966 and is one of Major League Baseball’s oldest active ballparks. Although the venue has undergone several renovations, questions about its long-term future have continued for years.

A replacement ballpark could provide the Angels with modern facilities while potentially supporting a broader entertainment and mixed-use development in Orange County. Details about the proposed location, financing and construction schedule have not been disclosed.

SoFi Stadium Offers a Model for the Project

Kroenke has extensive experience overseeing major stadium developments. As owner of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, he led the construction of SoFi Stadium and the surrounding complex in Inglewood.

The project, which cost approximately $5.5 billion, opened in 2020 and became one of the most prominent sports and entertainment venues in the United States.

Kroenke’s experience with SoFi Stadium could influence his approach to replacing Angel Stadium, particularly if the proposed development includes retail, dining, entertainment or other commercial components.

Kroenke Brings Championship Record to Angels

Kroenke’s professional sports organizations have achieved considerable success across multiple leagues. During his tenure, the Rams, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, NBA’s Denver Nuggets and Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids have won league championships. Arsenal also captured the most recent Premier League title.

That record has generated optimism among Angels players and fans who have endured a prolonged period without postseason success.

“Look at his track record,” Angels star Mike Trout said. “It’s all there. So, I’m super excited to meet him, get to know him a little bit, and see where it goes.”

Angels Looking to End Long Playoff Drought

The Angels have reached the postseason only once since 2009. Their most recent playoff appearance ended with a sweep in the 2014 American League Division Series.

Despite having Trout, one of the most accomplished players of his generation, the organization has struggled to build a consistent contender around him. The team also failed to reach the playoffs while Trout played alongside two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.

The lack of sustained success has increased calls for changes in roster construction, player development, scouting and baseball operations.

Financial Resources Could Reshape the Franchise

Bloom estimated Kroenke’s net worth at $24.3 billion. That would make him the wealthiest owner in MLB, ahead of New York Mets owner Steve Cohen, whose fortune was listed at $23 billion.

A reported commitment of $2.5 billion toward a new stadium would signal Kroenke’s willingness to make a substantial investment early in his Angels ownership. Building a competitive baseball organization, however, would also require sustained spending on players, analytics, scouting and development.

If MLB approves the sale, the Angels could enter a transformative period under one of professional sports’ most experienced owners. A new stadium would represent the most visible potential change, but fans will ultimately measure Kroenke’s tenure by whether the franchise returns to postseason contention.
