A pickup truck crashes into a balcony in central Brussels. Belgian police confirmed this to VRT. The Brussels fire brigade told Belgian media that six people were slightly injured.

The accident occurred at about 1 pm on St. Michaelsrat, a side street in the Nieuwstraat shopping district. Police say the driver ran away in his car. He has not been arrested yet. It is not clear if this was intended.

An eyewitness on the radio says, “We were just enjoying the balcony. Suddenly a white truck arrived at a fast pace, swaying from left to right. On the other street, the driver hit another balcony and then the truck drove away at full speed.” 1 of VRT.

The Belgian newspaper reported earlier HLN Other witnesses said the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar”. It has since been removed from the news. The police did not confirm whether the witnesses’ allegations were true.

The area around Sint-Michielsstraat has been cordoned off. A helicopter is used to search for the suspect.
