When asked when he was able to spot Porter, Crawford was on point: “Round one. I figured I had access. He had to take fortunes to get in. I was stronger than him.”

Round 9

Porter is looking for the right flank that is causing Crawford such trouble. Crawford drops a stunt hook from the Southpaw stand. A pure body shot of Porter which slowed down his work rate somewhat. Porter now appears to be taking a tour to save energy. Two beautiful body shots by Crawford, who inflicted the cleanest, most effective blows in the frame.

Round 8

Porter lands with his huge right hand in the center of the chamfer that appears to be clamping Crawford, then follows him with another hand. And another! Crawford bounces back with a hit on the body that appears to hurt Porter. High-profile stuff from both guys but probably the best round in the fight for Porter.

Round 7

Porter closes the gap and lands with his sharp right hand. It mixes it up beautifully and gives Crawford a different look. Crawford Porter grabs a left counter as he lunges over but Porter walks through. Porter looks pretty fit, still bouncing on the balls of his feet, brimming with confidence. A very close round in a tough battle to score.

Round 6

Lots of infighting as the fighting continues between these two people. Crawford lands a few sharp hooks while Porter sets in for the big shot. Left hand by Crawford down the middle. Another cross header as a result of the match between the Orthodox and the South and now Crawford has been cut off. A close round where Crawford landed the most effective shots but Porter was busier. Crawford puts it on our card.

Round 5

Porter is the busiest fighter, throwing plenty of punches even if most of them don’t land. Crawford is unable to do much against the sheer size, though a few have landed. Porter, fighting the perfect fight so far, takes the round on this card.

Round 4

The great match we promised is coming. Porter forced the case and had Crawford fight at his own pace but Crawford, swapping positions but fighting mostly as a Southern force, Porter showed up with counters every time he hit the bulls. Great tour for Budd, clearest fight yet.

Round 3

A more cautious round though as it plays at the pace of Crawford, who seems ominously finding his rhythm. Some good body work from Porter but Crawford is starting to lick. Porter comes inside and lands hard. What a shot! But it’s not without a cost: Porter appears to have severed his right eye and appears to have been from a head-on collision. Porter drops but the referee correctly ruled a slip. The bell rings and this is a porter’s tour.

Round 2

Crawford and Porter measure each other in the middle of the ring. Porter lands at the right flowmeter. Crawford followed by a left counter followed by a left body. Another good 1-2 group by Crawford. The great exchange that Porter excels at. Two-way action erupts as the crowd turns into a frenzy. A tour close to Crawford takes it.

Porter kicks off his corner and throws a mix in Crawford. Left Crawford fights back foot early as usual, absorbing Porter’s fire. Crawford tumbles left sharply snapping Porter’s head back. The bell rings and the first round goes to Porter, who threw more and landed more.

The consensus is that tonight’s showdown will be either an iconic Crawford performance against perhaps the highest quality opponent of his career or an all-out war between two of the best heavyweights of their generation.
