Software update: PeaZip 9.3.0 – Computer – Downloads

PeaZip logo (75px) PeaZip version 9.3.0 has been released. This archiver is provided under an open source license, and downloads are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. The program wants to differentiate itself from the competition by specializing in safety. Thus data encryption is one of the main functions of the proprietary pea shape. PeaZip can create 7z, bz2, gz, paq/lpaq, pea, quad, tar, upx and zip files and extract various file formats including ace, arj, cab, deb, iso, lha, rar and rpm. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

  • (macOS) Fixed conditional startup actions on entry (open, extract, extract here…)
  • Added column to display comment at file level in archive (default hidden)
  • While browsing an archive, an information pop-up window (clicking on the status bar) shows whether the archive type can be edited in PeaZip
  • Updated themes
    • Contrast setting added to themes
    • Theme packs now contain customizable 32-bit PNG icons for archive file types
      • Alternative themes with different icons are available for archive types by selecting Custom in the Theme drop-down menu
      • New system icon packs are available to change system icons according to themes, however icon files from theme packs can be used for system integration in operating systems that accept icons in PNG format

Extraction and archiving

  • Added checkbox to manually set RAR binary for Custom/RAR compression format
    • This setting will allow Windows users to locate the WinRar Rar.exe executable more flexibly than an automatic search, and non-Windows users to set up RAR compression using Wine or other alternatives
  • (Windows) Workflow free space is reported in the Archive and Extract screens info box, clicking status bar
  • (Windows) Free space on the output path and working path (if applicable) is checked before the archive and extraction process starts, and the user is warned if the free space may not be enough
  • repairs
    • Fixed a crash if the app was forced to extract to a read-only path
    • The working directory for ARC compression has now been changed accordingly to the 7z/p7zip backend working directory
    • Correct handling of the .tar extension in the output file name when extracting to a new folder, if the item with the same name exists in the destination
