Justin Thomas McCay lured Jim “Bones” away from his full-time broadcasting job to be his full-time fund.
The world’s sixth-ranked player who won the Players Championship in March and was a member of the victorious US Ryder Cup Championship has split from longtime model Jimmy Johnson, who has been with Thomas since turning pro in 2015.
Mackay will continue to work for the Golf Channel on a limited basis.
Mackay told Golf Channel: “I got off the left field recently. I have great respect for him as a person and as a player. It was a great phone call and I said yes.
“I love to carry cans and I loved my role with NBC/Golf, but it’s Justin Thomas.”
Last year, Mackay replaced Johnson on two occasions when he was ill, including winning at WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and then the following week in the PGA Championship.
