First, the date: Since last weekend, the specific date on which the United States will reopen its borders, i.e. November 8, has been known. Since then, citizens of Schengen, England, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil have been welcomed back to the non-essential trip.
As is well known, citizens of these countries must be fully vaccinated to enter the United States. Naturally structured immunity is not calculated. It was already clear that travelers with Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen vaccines were welcome because they were approved by the US FDA.
We now know that travelers with vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) are also welcome. The CDC (American RIVM) has informed the Department of Civil Aviation about this. This includes AstraZeneca, so all vaccines used in the Netherlands are adequate.
In addition to being fully vaccinated, passengers should also be tested negative. This test should not take more than three days at departure. At present, it may be an antigen or NAAT test (for example, the RT-PCR test). Isolation is not required after coming to the United States.
It is not yet clear exactly where the age limit for vaccination duty will be set (minors are excluded) and what conditions the vaccination certificate must meet. The US government has promised to release such details before November 8.
Of course, normal entry conditions for the US also apply, such as applying for ESTA travel authorization.
Dutch travel restrictions on return
Passengers do not have to be isolated (because they have been vaccinated) on their way back to the Netherlands. However, in addition to the vaccination certificate, they must also have a negative test certificate. This should be a 48-hour NAAT / PCR test or a 24-hour departure antigen test.
Although vaccinated persons do not have to be isolated, they must complete the isolation report upon their return to the Netherlands.
