Amsterdam colleagues Sebastian Colesti and Robin Wolfkamp – who founded Kever Genever in 2015 – say they are stunned. “We see little in Ono’s work for what she preached Peace, love and happiness,” responds 32-year-old Kolstee in a press release. “Ms. Ono and her organization’s claim is severely damaging to our company and a major blow to our business. We cannot imagine that John Lennon himself would have come up with such a hostile plan.”
According to the duo, the name John Lemon Canned Cocktail refers not to the world-famous singer, but to the classic John Collins cocktail in which “lemon” was chosen because of its lemon content. The Entrepreneur Group consists of several classic cocktails with “each with a funny name”. There’s Holy Negroni, Henkie Panky, and Pinky Promise.
Kolstee and Wolvekamp are in talks with attorneys Yoko Ono and the Imagine Peace Revocable Trust. “We do not let ourselves squeeze like lemons. Anyway, the last word has not been said on this matter.”
