Xiaomi has announced the Mix Fold 2 foldable phone for the Chinese market. The device gets the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a primary camera with a 50MP sensor and a smaller battery compared to the previous generation. When opened, the device is 5.4 mm thick.

The device weighs 262 grams, which is lighter compared to the previous generation, which weighed 317 grams. The external display is a 6.56-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels. The OLED screen on the inside measures 8.02″ and has a 2016 x 1914 resolution. For comparison, the screen on the outside of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is 6.2 inches, and on the inside of the Samsung it has an OLED panel of 7.6.”.

So the Mix Fold 2 has bigger screens. These monitors support a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The Chinese manufacturer gave the Fold 2 a new hinge so that the fold in the screen inside is less noticeable. There is also a fingerprint scanner located at the bottom of the device screen.

The Mix Fold 2 gets three cameras on the back. The primary camera has a 50-megapixel sensor. The ultra-wide camera has a 13MP sensor and a 2x zoom lens has an 8MP sensor. The selfie camera on the front of the device is 20 megapixels. So there is no selfie camera on or under the device’s internal screen. For image processing, Xiaomi has partnered with camera company Leica. This collaboration is expressed in the device’s camera software, which includes Leica filters and interface details.

The device runs on Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and comes with Android 12 where Xiaomi has poured its own MIUI Fold 13 interface. The Mix Fold 2 comes with a 4,500mAh battery. That’s less compared to the 5020mAh battery on the Mix Fold from last year. The Mix Fold 2 battery supports 67W fast charging. Xiaomi claims that the Mix Fold 2 battery can be fully charged in 40 minutes.

Xiaomi is releasing the Mix Fold 2 in China in a black and gold version. The cheapest version comes with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It costs about 1290 euros. The version with 512 GB of storage costs about 1434 euros. The version with 1 TB of storage is sold for about 1720 euros. Xiaomi has not made any announcements of its launch in other parts of the world.
