Thunderstorm Pro i9 replacement desktop review

Thunderbolt Pro i9 variant

The Alternate Thunderstorm Pro i9 is an impressive gaming PC, with a luxurious chassis with curved glass and the requisite RGB lighting. Overall, the composition is also good; In our opinion, only a budget SSD does not belong to this system. You’re paying a lot for all this beauty. Doing it yourself will save you approximately €450 and we think this difference is too large to award a prize.

Off-the-shelf computers come in all shapes and sizes. A little over a week ago, we looked at the price fighter from Erazer, and today it’s the turn of a more powerful, larger, and more expensive system. According to Alternate, the Thunderstorm Pro i9 is suitable for gaming and productivity, and only high-quality components are used. These are big claims: time to test.

The Thunderstorm Pro i9 has an impressive appearance. This starts with unpacking, because everything is contained in a glass structure 50 cm deep and high. Combined with the large video card and water cooling, this results in a total weight of 19kg. If a computer’s performance is determined by its weight, then we are certainly dealing with a lot of power.

The list of most important ingredients also creates high expectations. Alternate chose the Core i9-14900KF, a very fast CPU, but also difficult to cool, and the second-fastest video card from Nvidia’s RTX 4000 lineup: the relatively new RTX 4080 Super.

At the time of writing, Alternate is asking €3,199 for the Thunderstorm Pro i9, for which the online store gives a three-year warranty.
