Damon Hill predicted Lando Norris could win the Austin Sprint while suggesting Red Bull would struggle in the shorter race.
It’s the second of two consecutive weekends as Formula 1 heads to the United States for the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
With Red Bull passing up the opportunity to win the Sprint race in Qatar to McLaren, Hill expects something similar to happen this weekend.
“Because of the win,” Lando Norris tells Damon Hill
Max Verstappen was edged out by Oscar Piastri in Qatar, one of only three men to prevent Verstappen from winning this year, and it also saw the young McLaren driver achieve something his team-mate has yet to do: win a Formula 1 race.
Sure, it was just a sprint, but it no doubt bothered Norris a bit. Although Hill believes that will be corrected this weekend.
“I think Lando should win,” the 1996 world champion said. “It’s deserved [a win] Isn’t it Lando? Sprint Lando, the race will be Max.
“I think it’s about who else is on the podium. Chico has to flip the fuse. The Mexican Grand Prix is coming. He has to do something. Find that thing, whatever it is or don’t try too hard or something. I don’t know what this.”
At Red Bull in particular, Hill believes he has seen enough to suggest that over a short distance like a Sprint race, the RB19 is not quite as dominant as it usually is.
“I love Austin, it’s a good place. So I’m excited to go and of course you get two for the price of one with Sprint. That’s nice, you get a little extra.”

He continued: “But the interesting thing is the weak point, the Achilles heel if you can call it that at all, with Red Bull and Max when the drivers are at their top speed. It seems clear that even though their car is particularly good at conserving the tires over a long period However, the shorter the race, I think Red Bull is more vulnerable.
While Red Bull have clinched both titles, there are plenty of records left to be achieved, including the most points scored in a single season. The current record is held by Mercedes who achieved 765 points in 2016, but with five races to go and two races to go, Red Bull has every chance of beating that.
