The man must return 55 thousand euros to the company after 77 laptops disappeared

According to the judge of the District Court in Bergen op Zoom, it is clear that the man was involved in her disappearance or At least responsible For damages caused to DKG.

The man ordered laptops on behalf of the company a total of eight times, between the end of 2022 and April 2023. During that period, the stationary computers were replaced by laptops when a division of the company – which is active in the kitchen industry – moved. The man ordered a total of 101 laptops, 77 of which later disappeared.

Out of order

The company did not realize this at first because the man, who had been working for DKG since 2021, had ordered a large number of laptops. Not all requests were recorded in the systems. He did not place emails with the supplier in the intended shared email box.

He himself stated that he did not know that was necessary, but the judge did not think so because he followed the rules for both matters. The judge also ruled that the fact that he never reported the missing orders was not to his advantage. The man says he did this, but his colleagues confirm that this is not true. The judge believes them.

Not all damage

Therefore, the man must compensate for the damage, the judge rules. It is noteworthy that the amount of damage did not exceed 82,000 euros for all the missing electronic devices. The judge believes the company could have prevented some of the damages.

In November 2022, the person who had to approve these types of orders became suspicious. During transportation, he was told that the laptop box was missing. The colleagues who told him this had a feeling that the man was involved.

The colleague has not yet intervened, because there are not enough tangible indicators to do so. They were there when demand for iPhone chargers disappeared. The colleague recalls that the company never ordered original parts.

Ignore the signals

They were in a safe, which the man could also get into because the key was somewhere he could access it. According to the judge, this should have been a reason to pay more attention. But that did not happen, allowing the man to strike several times before the company called in an investigating agency to solve the case.

It is unclear what happened to the laptops and chargers. It was not possible to contact the company, and the ruling did not refer to it again.
