A 1912 menu used on board the Titanic has been sold to an anonymous buyer for €95,000. This was announced by the English auction house Henri Aldridge & Son. The return is higher than expected, and the target price was more than €68,000.

The list was only recently discovered. It was found by chance in a historian’s photo album in northeastern Canada. The menu includes oysters, lamb in mint sauce and duck in wine sauce. The dishes were intended for an elegant first-class dinner on April 11, 1912. The ship had just completed a six-hour voyage from Ireland to New York.

According to the auction house, Titanic listings are rarely found. The first ever list was raised even more in 2018: around €114,000. These dishes were served during the trial run, eight days before the official flight departure.

Ice mountain

The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. Of the 2,200 people on board, more than 1,500 drowned. The wreck was located in 1985. Since then, the keys to the collection and some lists have been found.
