Solar Magazine - CubicPV to build 10 GW peak wafer factory in US

The planned plant — the first of its size announced in the United States — is expected to create 1,500 new direct jobs.

Great change
Last December, Dutchman Frank van Meerlo, the head of QBQPV, said his company would be around for a few years. The first silicon-perovskite tandem solar panels wants to bring to market.

Inflation Act “Represents a giant shift in the global landscape and the United States is poised to become the most competitive place in the world for manufacturing solar energy products,” Van Mierlo said of the new plant. “We are excited to play a role in the renaissance of American manufacturing as we accelerate our business plan and support the development of our next-generation tandem module technology.”

Cubic has begun designing the plant, is working with a construction management company and is currently in advanced discussions about the location of the facility. The company expects to complete site selection in the first quarter of 2023 and begin construction shortly thereafter. Construction is expected to be completed in 2024 and the plant is expected to be fully operational in 2025.

With the Gigafactory, Cubic will not only meet the pronounced demand for American wafer manufacturing, but also accelerate its R&D activities specific to the development of tandem solar panels.
