Patriots claim exemptions for RB/WR Malcolm Perry Off from Miami;  Put WR N'Keal Harry on IR;  Three players signed up for the coaching squad

Foxborough, Mass. The New England Patriots announced today that they have asked RB/WR Malcolm Perry to rescind waivers from the Miami Dolphins. Additionally, the Patriots put WR N’Keal Harry into an injured reserve.

The Patriots also signed QB Garrett Gilbert, FB Ben Mason and LB Jahlani Tavai (tah-VIE) to the coaching staff.

Berry, 24, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (246 overall) from Miami out of the Navy in the 2020 NFL Draft. She played 5-10, 190-pounder in nine games with two pads last season and finished with nine receptions for 92 yards and one touchdown. He also made three lunge attempts for five yards. Released by Miami on August 31, 2021. Perry played quarterback during his college career in the Navy.

Gilbert, 30, spent time on the New England coaching staff in 2014 after being signed on December 17, where he remained for the remainder of the regular season and post-season. The 6-foot-4, 228-pounder originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick for the St. Louis Rams (ranked 214) of the 2014 NFL Draft Southern Methodist. He has spent time with the St. Louis Rams, New England, Detroit, Oakland Raiders, Carolinas, Cleveland and Dallas during his NFL career. Overall, he played in seven games with one start and completed 23 of 44 for 283 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Last season, Gilbert started the season on the Cleveland coaching team but was signed by Dallas to the 53-player roster on October 13. 243 yards with one touchdown.

Mason, 22, was drafted by Baltimore in the fifth round (184 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft from Michigan. The 6-foot-3, 256-pounder was a two-time Michigan Toughest Player of the Year (2017 and 2019) winner while in school after playing both in defense and offense during his career.

Tafay, 24, originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick (43rd place) from Detroit out of Hawaii in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 246-pounder played in 31 games with 16 starts over the past two seasons with Detroit and scored 113 total tackles. Two bags, one interception, two defensive passes, three forced passes, and one fouled recovery.
