Freddy is a long-term destructive storm
What is remarkable about Storm Freddy is not only that the storm has come ashore twice, but also that the storm has gone on for so long. The storm started over a month ago off the coast of Australia. At the end of February, the storm reached South Africa.
This route is also amazing. It is not unusual for a tropical storm to travel thousands of miles across the Indian Ocean. Similar storms have “crossed” the ocean all the way from east to west only four times before, according to NOAA meteorologists.
