Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he was surprised by Manchester United’s transfer business this summer, but not the buying power of Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Asked about the club’s rivals’ spending at a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s opening game against Norwich City on Saturday, Klopp replied: “We all know the situation of Chelsea, City and Paris Saint-Germain.
“What United do, I don’t know how they did it. We have our own way of doing it. We are allowed to spend the money we earn, and that’s what we’ve always done. We spent this year before we made money from [Ibrahima] Konate Because after last season, just to be clear, we can’t risk this situation at all.
“I’ve never been surprised by the financial strength of Chelsea, City or United, I’ve been here long enough to know they always find a solution to these things.”
Klopp also praised the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk After he signed a new four-year contract at the club.
“It’s great news. We’re really happy that he’s happy here,” he added. “Imagine if we had to buy that boy now. Fortunately, we just have to give him a new contract.”
Konate was the club’s only summer signing and when asked if they needed to bring in another midfielder after that Georginio WijnaldumKlopp’s departure, he replied: “Tell me which player we need, I’m really interested.
“What kind of player would you like to sign? Does he score more goals than Jenny? Should he defend better than Fabinho? Be more creative than a relative [Keita]And Curtis [Jones]And Alex Oxlade Chamberlain And [Harvey] Elliot? “
