Erica Melland said on the radio show today About Perstrebon On NPO Radio 1 she will not change her resume. Recently, there has been an uproar about her statements about Muslims that she talks about in the book. For example, Erica compares women who wear a burqa to a penguin and describes the veil as “unnatural.”
The reality star has earned a lot of criticism. She says she faced the media storm that surrounded her person as “interesting”. However, she is not too concerned about everything that is said about her and her statements in the book. It’s my resume, you can put it aside. It’s my humble opinion, everyone should do with it what they want.”
The reality star thinks the Netherlands is “very divided”. “You can’t say anything anymore in Holland. You have insults and people are quick to step on their toes, I think that’s a big difference.” In fact, she says that this is why she is happy with her statements. “It is good that the discussion has begun, I am happy with that. It is a good thing that we are getting into a discussion with each other.”
I noticed that fame did something with Erica. “I noticed that if you say something, you get a lot of things,” the reality star thinks, positively and negatively. Then I think “Should you change yourself then?” I do not want it. I’m very open-minded, and I don’t want to be skeptical or cynical. I hope I can keep that.”
Several companies have canceled their cooperation with the Meiland TV family. Card maker Hallmark, mattress brand Emma, Nivea skincare, Milka and Hello Fresh, no longer need to be associated with Meilandjes. Most companies have stated in their explanations that Erica’s statements are inconsistent with her goals of inclusivity.
Maxi-Cosi also canceled the collaboration with Maxime Meiland. The company had already canceled the collaboration a few weeks ago, but it did not release this news earlier. Meiland drew attention to Maxi-Cosi on social media.
Talpa, on which Meilandjes makes television programmes, indicated she would not be substantively responding to these statements. Everything Meilandjes say outside of their shows is family responsibility.
