Good morning! The county council will elect a new Senate this afternoon. A man is on trial in Rotterdam who allegedly traded with Russia despite the sanctions.

What do you expect today?

  • This afternoon, the 572 county council members will elect new members of the Senate. It is certain which party they will go for most of the seats, but this is exciting for the last so-called remaining seats.   • The “old” Senate is still meeting today: the vote on the new retirement law is expected tonight. Last night I posted an urgent letter from constitutional law professors saying the law is inconsistent with the constitution.
  • And in the Rotterdam court, a criminal case was initiated against a 55-year-old man who was about to supply goods to Russia that could also be used for military purposes. These deliveries are prohibited: sanctions have been imposed on Russia because of the war in Ukraine.

What did you miss?

The car bridge no longer goes down so cars cannot be unloaded. Due to the end of the Pentecost holiday, the boat was very busy and about a hundred people were scammed.

Anyone without a car can go to the beach right away. It is about the ferry that arrived in Holwert at 7.50pm. At about 00:30 the passengers were told that the boat was sailing back to Ameland, where they had been collected to spend the night.
