Good morning! The county council will elect a new Senate this afternoon. A man is on trial in Rotterdam who allegedly traded with Russia despite the sanctions.
First, the weather: clouds are moving in from the north. These clouds will remain stationary in many places, but the sun will also break through more often from the south this afternoon. Some rain will fall locally from the densest clouds to the north. It will be from 14 to 19 degrees.

What do you expect today?
- This afternoon, the 572 county council members will elect new members of the Senate. It is certain which party they will go for most of the seats, but this is exciting for the last so-called remaining seats. NOS broadcasts the Senate elections live from 3.45pm online and on NPO Radio 1 and NPO 1.
- The “old” Senate is still meeting today: the vote on the new retirement law is expected tonight. Last night I posted an urgent letter from constitutional law professors saying the law is inconsistent with the constitution.
- And in the Rotterdam court, a criminal case was initiated against a 55-year-old man who was about to supply goods to Russia that could also be used for military purposes. These deliveries are prohibited: sanctions have been imposed on Russia because of the war in Ukraine.
What did you miss?
The ferry between Holwert and Ameland, where tens to a hundred passengers were stuck, turned back to Ameland. Deceived travelers were looked after there, in the hope that they would be able to go to the mainland this morning.
The car bridge no longer goes down so cars cannot be unloaded. Due to the end of the Pentecost holiday, the boat was very busy and about a hundred people were scammed.
Anyone without a car can go to the beach right away. It is about the ferry that arrived in Holwert at 7.50pm. At about 00:30 the passengers were told that the boat was sailing back to Ameland, where they had been collected to spend the night. The intention is that they can catch the ferry to Holwert early in the morning and continue there by car.
Other news of the night:
The ladies of Ajax, who won the national title earlier this month, were still honored last night. There was a big party at the club Levenslang in Amsterdam. The entire team was present at the party and they arrived in limousines.
