Walk on your toes
Since Erika seemed harsh and bossy in the previous TV series Ik Vertrek and was labeled a sour lesbian on social media, she decided to act differently. Caroline in her book about Erica: “I couldn’t help but smile inwardly when I saw that this time she played a woman oblivious to the effect of the recording.” She was careful not to react angrily or scream. But she walked on her toes all day. It did not surprise me that after a day of filming she went to bed completely exhausted at around 8pm.
According to Caroline, everything that seems spontaneous in the famous reality series is not in reality. “Sometimes something had to be repeated four times. If Martin didn’t shout loudly enough or Erika or Maxime or I said something wrong, it was: again. Even the ‘spontaneous conversations’ were acted out, just like the events “Spontaneity” that we had to shoot ourselves when the crew was in the Netherlands. According to Caroline, this was what the director had to do, who, according to her, was only interested in drama, intrigue, arguments and sensation. “Viewers don’t want boring characters, they want entertainment,” he said. “You have to provide that.”
