Cabinet wants to force refugees to take in refugees in exchange for government employees and additional housing | Policy

Asylum crisisThe cabinet wants municipalities to provide temporary housing for 7,500 refugees in the coming weeks. In addition, each security zone must create an additional 225 reception places. In turn, all twenty-five security districts will receive thirty officials to arrange and implement a number of matters. The government also wants to allocate 40 million euros for the construction of additional homes.

In this way, the Cabinet is trying to reach an agreement with governments to ease the burden of receiving asylum, insiders confirm a message from NOS

The Security Council will speak digitally with Foreign Minister Eric van der Burgh (Asylum) on Friday morning about this potential solution to the main problems related to the reception of asylum seekers. It is possible that Housing Minister Hugo de Jonge will also be present, because both ministers asked mayors at the deliberation session to cooperate in resolving the deadlock at the reception.

The problems arose at the central registration site in Ter Apel because centers for asylum seekers in the country are overcrowded. This is again because many of the status holders who live in asylum seeker centers do not move, as there is a shortage of housing in the Netherlands.

On Monday, the 25 mayors and chiefs of security districts, Van der Burg and de Jong were unable to reach agreement on the reception. This was partly because the mayors believed there was already enough on the municipal boards.

The mayors say they want to help solve the reception crisis, but a number of them see no point in forcing other mayors in their security zone to arrange the reception. How this will work in practice is not yet agreed.
