The Panthers won’t officially have this year’s No. 1 seed when they face the Seahawks this weekend.
Head coach Frank Reich officially ruled out quarterback Bryce Young on Friday after the team indicated on Thursday that Young was not expected to play. Young did not practice all week.
“The documents say From one to two weeksReich said in his press conference. “I think Bryce did a good job this week. I’m optimistic that he’s on the right track, and that however soon he can be back, he will be back. And when he comes back and when he’s cleared, he’s our guy and he’ll be ready to go.”
Reich still isn’t sure exactly when the injury occurred during the game, saying adrenaline helped carry Young through Monday night.
Young will make the long trip from Charlotte to Seattle, where Reich said the quarterback has made enough progress that the trip isn’t a concern.
As for next week, Reich said he thinks there’s a possibility Young could play against the Vikings.
“I think if he stays on the same path he’s on, I think there’s a chance,” Reich said. “But, again, I’m not the doctor. I tend to be a little optimistic sometimes in these situations. But I’m really encouraged by the progress he’s making.”
Jake Lawton will support Andy Dalton in this week’s match.
Justin Houston (calf) is the only other player with a game status on the injury report and is questionable. Reich said he is optimistic Houston will be able to play. Houston was a full participant in Friday’s practice.
Linebacker Brian Burns (ankle) and running back Miles Sanders (pectoral) were both full participants Friday and did not start the game.
