For many years, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Saints coach Sean Payton didn’t have to worry about developing a new midfielder.
That changed for Belichick last year when Tom Brady Signed with pirates. She changed to Payton in 2021 with the retirement of Drew Bryce.
Belichick trained once against Winston – again in 2017 when the Patriots beat the Buccaneers 19-14. But Belichick does not publicly downplay the importance of QB Saints’ New Beginning.
“that it Really good quarterbackBelichick said Wednesday, via WEEI’s Ryan Hannabel. He threw for 5,000 yards in Tampa, so it’s not like this guy wasn’t productive. Orleans. But basically, this is a big strong guy who can throw the ball with precision. He’s very good on the field. He’s a tough guy to handle. He’s strong in the pocket. He can do every throw on the field. He’s very good.”
Winston threw five touchdowns in New Orleans’ first week on Green Bay. But he didn’t have as much success against Carolina last week, finishing 11 of 22 passes for 111 yards with a pair of interceptions. He was also fired four times, although he ran for relegation.
Belichick noted that Winston is able to play with both legs.
“If you saw him running with the ball, I don’t know why you would want him to run with the ball into space,” Belichick said. “I don’t think that’s a good idea at all. It’s hard to handle. He’s fast. Run over people. I don’t think you want him to rush in high school.”
Winston rushed for six touchdowns as a rookie player, but has only had five rushing streams since 2016.
This will be an important match for Winston, who could use a more positive performance after last week’s failure against a division rival.
