Accidentally broken information from Windows screenshots can be recovered – Computer – News

Clipped information from screenshots created with the Windows Snipping Tool can be recovered due to an error. So says the researcher. Recently posted the same bug that works on Pixel phones.

researcher David Buchanan confirms the findings From software engineer Chris Blum That acropalypse error also works on Windows. Due to the error, the cropped or blurred parts can partially or completely reconstruct the original image. This is because the program does not delete the bytes of the original image, but only overwrites them, leaving the unwritten portions of the file.

Buchanan says the same exploit works with minimal modifications. The pixel format is different, because the Snipping Tool uses the RGBA format, red-green-blue-alpha, unlike the Pixel phones’ RGB format.

Microsoft has not yet responded to the finding, which could allow private data to be retrieved from the screenshots. Google has already responded: the company has fixed the error In the March update for many Pixel phones. The error has been in the system since Android 10 and is due to a bug which has been known for several years. It is not known if the vulnerability was exploited.
