A Cuban couple was killed on the road by a man without a driver’s license

The motorcyclist and his pillion passenger killed by a motorist this morning on Van ‘t Hogerhuysstraat in Suriname are both of Cuban origin.

It is understood that the matter concerns the couple; 52-year-old motorcycle racer Enrique Joson Cabrera and his partner 53-year-old Margarita Pia Martinez (photo).

The Surinamese police investigation shows that the motorcyclist was not riding on the bike path at the time of the collision, but on the road. There they were hit by a Mercedes driver.

New Haven police went to the scene to investigate and called an ambulance. When the nursing team arrived, it was found that the two victims did not show any signs of life. After consultation with the Suriname Public Prosecution, their bodies were transferred to the Paramaribo Academic Hospital morgue.

When the police arrived, the driver had already fled without leaving his details. The man reported to police at New Haven Police Station hours later at 9:50 a.m. accompanied by a lawyer. He does not have a driver’s license.

The case was transferred to the Paramaribo Traffic Unit on site. The investigation is ongoing.
