Google has enabled video output on the upgraded Pixel 8 phones. The Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a have this function, but users can only use it after upgrading to watch content from their phone via cable on a large screen.

For now, it’s all about projecting the phone’s screen onto a larger screen, but a limited form of desktop mode is also likely. This feature will not be available on Pixel 7 and earlier, as there is no support for USB-C video output.

The upgrade also brings the AI-powered Gemini Nano model to the Pixel 8 and 8a. So far, it has only worked on the Pixel 8 Pro. This is possible through developer settings. This makes it possible, among other things, to transcribe audio files into the recorder. This doesn’t work in Dutch, but it works in English.

Your multi-pixel camera software can now automatically take a photo when someone opens their eyes and smiles. There are also smaller improvements. The upgrade, which Google is calling the June Features Drop, will be released on Tuesday for the Pixel 6 and later. The Pixel Watch and Pixel Tablet models will also receive upgrades.
