There are still hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the northern half of the Gaza Strip. This was reported by the Israeli army, which is calling on people to leave for their safety in the run-up to a possible ground attack. It’s not clear what that would look like.
An Israeli army spokesman said that an estimated 600,000 people had left for southern Gaza. “There are still several hundred thousand people who need to leave.”
It is very likely that the Israeli army is preparing to invade northern Gaza. It is not yet certain what the “next phase” will look like. The spokesman said: “Everyone is talking about the ground attack. But it could be something else as well.”
The Israeli army has been bombing the Gaza Strip since October 7. On that day, Hamas launched a major attack on Israel from the Palestinian territories. Israel called in more than 300,000 reserve soldiers to fight Hamas.
In addition to soldiers, tanks and other military equipment were also sent to the border with the Gaza Strip. Gaza Strip residents have already been given several deadlines to leave the north of the area.
The isolated Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. More than two million residents are already stranded there because the borders are closed.
