VVD leader Dilan Jeselgoz confirms that her party will not enter a new government. She responds to the criticism she received from her party and other parties.
Before the scout was appointed to form, Yesilgoz said on Friday morning that the VVD would not join the government. However, the party wants to provide support for the formation of a centre-right government.
Yesilgoz’s comment was met with surprised and angry reactions from other parties. PVV leader Geert Wilders, BBB member Caroline van der Plas and Peter Omtzigt of the National Security Council were not happy with the sudden turnaround.
Yeselgoz spoke on the program Friday evening News hour Against playing “political games”. She does not feel like she is abandoning her voters. The party leader said, “There is a difference between taking responsibility and participating in the government.”
“The voter indicated that things should be done differently than before,” Yesilguz stressed. That is why the VVD must now “stand still.”
The VVD lost ten seats in the last elections compared to two years ago. This means that the party is no longer the largest after thirteen years. This is now the PVV, which won 37 seats.
