The two officers were Jason B. Thomas, who was driving, opened his window and almost immediately slammed Mahi with a knife into the officer’s neck. Then he stabbed Jason in the arm. Thomas eventually died of his injuries.
“We’ve lost one of us,” emotional police chief Olivier Sloussi said during a press conference. We already know this about the victims.
After a career in the restaurant industry, only 29-year-old Thomas M worked for the police in Northern Brussels for four years, but was already seen as a veteran of his young team. Thomas had a twin brother and a sister. He played the drums in his spare time and regularly went to the mountains to ski.
Thomas came from Doncel in the province of Liege. The shock in the area is great after the sudden death of a young police officer. “I couldn’t believe my ears,” says Arnaud Delvaux, an alderman for urban planning and church plant, renewable energies and mobility in Dunsell. Many people here know Thomas well. We immediately decided to hang the national tricolor on half of the mast,” says Delvaux.
Thomas’ fellow students at the police school also reported: “We had a great time together at the police school,” as reported on social media.
Jason B. The 23-year-old recently graduated from the Police Academy. He was still able to sound the alarm after his teammate was hit in the neck. He was able to convey that the perpetrator shouted “Allahu Akbar” before he began to stab. He was eventually shot in the arm. He was urgently operated on, but he is now out of danger.
