A motorist plowed into a group of people holding a benefit evening in the US state of Pennsylvania on Saturday. It is said that the suspect then attacked and killed the woman who was nearby. In all, two people were killed and seventeen were injured.
At least four people were seriously injured. Officials fear the death toll will rise.
Police are investigating whether the man deliberately drove into the crowd. Also, an investigation is being conducted into whether the suspect who was killed nearby and the victim knew each other.
According to US media, the crowd held a benefit evening for the families of the victims of the massive fire in Neskope earlier this month. 10 people were killed, including three children aged five, six and seven. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
What makes this case even more tragic is that one of the volunteer firefighters who responded to the fire alarm knew almost all of the victims. Harold Baker lost two children and three grandchildren in the fire. A total of eight of the ten deaths were known to him. His son, who died in the fire, was also a firefighter.
Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect. Exact charges against him are yet to be framed.
