The first medals of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will be handed out on Saturday, the day after the opening ceremony. The coming days will feature competitions in 329 events in 32 sports. The Olympics end on August 11. You can see the schedule of events here.
First medals and golds ever
As the 2024 Olympics approach, there are 69 countries that have never won a Summer Olympic medal, and another 37 that have never won a gold medal.
With each Olympics, the list gets shorter. In Tokyo, three countries—Burkina Faso, San Marino and Turkmenistan—won their first-ever medals. Three others—Bermuda, the Philippines and Qatar—won their first gold medals.
