King Willem-Alexander will celebrate his birthday in Maastricht in just over two weeks, but on Monday evening he has already visited the provincial capital with Queen Maxima for the annual King’s Day gala.
In addition to the royal duo, the co-organizers of King’s Day in Maastricht also take part in the concert at the Anne Het Frithof Theater.
Maastricht sounds
During the King’s Day Concert, Maastricht and its cultural environment will be musically highlighted. Contributing to this is cellist Elaine Hensels, violinist Lisa Verchtman, Carillonor Frank Stijns, and pianist brothers Lucas and Arthur Josen. They do so with the works of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Ysaye, Saint-Saëns and Leo Smit. The South Holland Orchestra and Zuid Opera will also be shown.

In addition, composer and conductor Leonard Evers will compose a song cycle for the concert based on texts by Maastricht poets. Harmonie Sainte Cécile from Eijsden greets the royal couple with a singing on arrival.

The King’s Day Party was founded in 1985 by Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus. Until 2014, the concert was held at the Noordeinde Palace. Then it is held in the municipality where the King’s Day is celebrated that year.
