The number of coronavirus cases continues to decline

The number of corona infections is still declining. The decline was halted on Wednesday when the average number of positive tests remained roughly the same. But the decline has continued since Thursday.

In the past seven days, the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVMOn average, 12,688 new cases of corona per day. At the beginning of this week, on Monday, that number was an average of 14,022 positive test results per day.

RIVM received 12,517 reports of positive tests between Thursday morning and Friday morning. The number of corona infections was significantly higher a week ago. That Friday, more than 15,000 infections were confirmed.

Amsterdam

Most cases of corona were reported in Amsterdam in the last 24 hours, i.e. 851. In the capital, the omikron type of virus – which appears to be more contagious – is currently prevalent.

In Rotterdam, 584 people heard that they had to spend Christmas this year in seclusion, and in The Hague their number was 346. In Utrecht, 311 people were told they had tested positive and there were 176 people in Almira.

No new infections were reported in only three municipalities in the past 24 hours: Scherpenzeel (Gelderland), Terschelling and Schiermonnikoog.

RIVM received a message last day that 41 people have died as a result of infection with the Coronavirus. Just because they are reported dead now doesn’t mean they died in the last 24 hours.
