In the past seven days, the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has received 92,449 reports of positive tests. This is 4 percent more than in the previous seven days. This ratio is called the growth rate. For the first time since November 30, the number of cases is rising on a weekly basis.
On average, this amounts to 13,207 positive tests per day. This average is rising for the third day in a row.
The number of deaths remains fairly stable at present. Last day, RIVM received a message that 33 people have died as a result of infection with the Coronavirus. For Friday, this is the lowest number since November 12.
In the past seven days, 266 deaths were reported, an average of 38 deaths per day. This is similar to the level in the last period. This number is somewhat distorted because dozens of deaths were recorded from November in Zeeland just this week.
More than 3.1 million positive tests have been recorded since the outbreak of the epidemic nearly two years ago. Nearly 21,000 people are certain they have died from the coronavirus. The actual numbers of infections and deaths are higher.
Reduce the number of corona patients again
There are 1,766 patients with Covid-19 in Dutch hospitals on Friday. There were 91 fewer than the previous day, which means that the number of Corona patients in hospital has decreased for the fourth consecutive day, according to the latest figures from the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). It’s the lowest number since November 12.
In recent days, an average of 1,934 COVID-19 patients were in hospital. This is the lowest average since mid-November.
There are 481 patients in intensive care units with Covid-19, 11 fewer patients than on Thursday. 1285 patients with corona occupy beds in nursing wards. This is 80 less than the day before.
22 new patients infected with the Corona virus were admitted to the interim departments between Thursday and Friday, and 135 to the nursing wards, and due to the fact that more people were allowed to leave hospitals or died, the total number of Corona patients decreased.
In the past seven days, the hospitals received approximately 178 patients per day. This is the lowest level since November 5.
It remains uncertain whether this decline in hospital numbers will continue, the LCPS said in a statement. According to the coordination center, this is based on the omikron variant, which is now prevalent in the Netherlands. “We are closely monitoring the impact of the omikron variant on infection rates. The effects of this on hospital numbers remain unclear, but the influx of new patients is expected to increase again in January.”
