The Chinese car manufacturer Nio is the first to offer its customers the option to replace empty batteries with full ones. As a driver, you never have to wait more than five minutes before you can continue driving. The first European dispensing station is located in Norway.

In Scandinavia, the Nio ES8 has been on sale for several months. Not only can you charge this SUV with a plug, but it is also suitable for a quick battery change on the road. Five hundred drainage stations have already been built in China and the battery has already been replaced more than 500,000 times.

The system works on a subscription basis called battery as a service, or BaaS. With this, you can drive into the exchange station, where your empty battery is replaced with a full one within five minutes. The empty battery is charged and ready for your next Nio driver.

according to Autogids site A battery subscription costs between 140 and 200 euros per month. For this you get a standard subscription or so-called Long-termSubscription. This includes six free battery changes per month. By the end of next year, there will be at least twenty drainage stations in Norway. Then it was Germany’s turn. It is not known if the service will also reach the Netherlands and if it will eventually be suitable for other electric vehicles.
