International airlines and interested groups want to get rid of the US government’s mandatory corona test for vaccinated passengers. Before they can board a flight to the United States, they must submit a negative corona test. The organizations said in a letter to the White House on Wednesday that the move would not apply to vaccinated passengers.
The American Airlines Airlines for America trade association, which represents ten major American airlines, is one of the parties that considers compulsory corona testing for vaccinated passengers unnecessary. European airlines and the US Chamber of Commerce also supported the proposal.
“Corona virus is currently prevalent in the United States and it is clear that efforts to control the import of the virus by air are unlikely to change that,” the companies said in the letter.
According to those organizations, research shows that “departure testing is a crucial factor in preventing travelers from traveling internationally” for fear of being trapped abroad. Companies also refer to Europe, where more countries are canceling mandatory corona testing before departure.
