An 84-year-old white man from Kansas City has been arrested for allegedly shooting a black teen who was standing outside his front door. Andrew Lister, who had previously been charged with racial discrimination, reported it to police on Tuesday.
Sixteen-year-old Ralph Jarl was supposed to pick up his younger twin brothers last Thursday, but he made a mistake with the street names. Lester’s doorbell rang.
When the man opened the door, he shot Jarl first in the head and then again in the arm. Bleeding out, the teenager asked Lester’s neighbors for help. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The police arrested Lester after the shooting, but released him after 24 hours. On Monday, the judiciary filed two charges against the man, but the public prosecutor said it was not clear at the time where Lister was.
If convicted, Lester could face a life sentence. According to the prosecutor, there may be a “racist aspect” to this case. The shooting incident leads to outrage and protests, including at Lester’s home.
US President Joe Biden called Pearl. He has now returned home.
