After Ford, automaker Stellantis also reached an agreement with the American labor union UAW. Stellantis manufactures vehicles for the Jeep brand in the United States, among others. No agreement has yet been reached with General Motors, the third largest automaker. There, the strikes that have been going on for weeks are expanding.

After a 44-day strike, the UAW and Stellantis agreed to, among other things, a 25 percent pay increase. This is less than the 40 percent that the union initially requested. Assembly members must still vote on the agreement. As with Ford, with which an agreement was reached Thursday, Stellantis’ deal with the UAW runs through April 2028.

The 14,000 Stellantis employees who were laid off were told they could return to work. This ends a six-week strike at the manufacturer.

At General Motors, employees are now turning up the heat with layoffs at an additional assembly plant in Tennessee. “We are disappointed by GM’s unnecessary and irresponsible refusal to reach a fair agreement,” UAW President Sean Fine wrote in a statement. The company says it has negotiated in good faith with the union and still wants to reach an agreement as soon as possible.
