TCL Launches Smartphones with Matte Screen – Tablets & Phones – News

TCL will showcase a smartphone with a Nxtpaper matte display at its IFA booth. The paper-like display is supposed to improve reading comfort; TCL previously installed Nxtpaper displays in tablets and laptops.

An employee explains that what will be displayed at IFA is just a prototype to showcase the technology. However, two TCL devices with Nxtpaper display will soon appear in stores: TCL 40 Nxtpaper and TCL 40 Nxtpaper 5G. Both will be available in European countries from this fall for 199 and 249 euros, respectively. It is still unclear whether the Netherlands and Belgium will also be included.

The Nxtpaper displays on both devices stand out from regular displays with a matte top layer, which feels smoother than the glass of your average smartphone screen. The display is said to emit less blue light than a regular display, and TCL has integrated a color temperature sensor, which allows not only the brightness but also the color of the display to be automatically adjusted according to the ambient light. For a more comfortable viewing experience, there is a button in the action center to switch to black and white display. The screen automatically returns to color when watching certain content, such as videos.

Only with the TCL 40 Nxtpaper, you can also draw on the screen with an optionally available stylus. Many other specifications of the 4G model are also slightly better than the 5G variant. For example, the 4G model has a higher screen resolution of 2460 x 1080 instead of 1612 x 720 pixels. The TCL 40 Nxtpaper phone contains a 50-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera, while the 5G model contains a 2-megapixel depth camera instead of the ultra-wide-angle camera. It also has an 8-megapixel front camera, while the 4G model has a 32-megapixel front camera.

The TCL 40 Nxtpaper 5G has a Mediatek Helio G88 socket and is faster on paper. The 4G model has a Dimensity 6020. Both devices have a fingerprint scanner on the side, a 3.5mm port, and 256GB of expandable storage. The TCL 40 Nxtpaper has 8GB of RAM, while the TCL 40 Nxtpaper 5G has 6GB. The battery capacity is around 5,000 mAh in both cases and it can only charge at 33W fast for the 4G model.
