Spotify is releasing a revamped home screen design this week, first for the Android app and later for the iOS variant. The Audio app now shows enhanced personalized suggestions across categories of Music, Podcasts, and Shows.
At the top of the Spotify app’s home screen, there are now two buttons, Music and Podcasts, and Shows. By clicking on one of the two buttons, a personalized feed is presented to the user according to the category clicked.
The feed under Music consists of listening suggestions for genres, albums and playlist that the user is likely to like, Spotify explains. Within podcasts and shows, in the feed appear in particular the latest episodes of programs already listened to, with the suggestion of listening now and then to a similar show. Both feeds work with “cards” that display, for example, the description of a podcast or the content of a playlist.
Until now, it has always been difficult to distinguish between podcasts and music, because Spotify confuses personalized suggestions. It will remain on the home screen, but users can now filter through the Android app if they specifically want suggestions in the Music or Podcasts & Shows category.
With filtered personalized suggestions, perhaps Spotify is trying to make it easier for podcast listeners to find content in this category. It’s one of the music service’s first major new features since it was announced that the Operating loss of 194 million euros Suffered in the last quarter.
