Screenwriter Kees Hollerhook died last Saturday at the age of 81. His family made the announcement in an obituary on Saturday. Holierhoek was involved, among other things, in writing film scripts Orange soldier And Gladiator By Paul Verhoeven.
The Delft-born writer also came up with the idea for the TV series Clover meadow, from the second half of the 1970s. Holierhoek also contributed script writing for several episodes of that series. He also participated in writing many plays and writing books, such as: Roosters in the monastery garden (1965).
Hollerhoek (Delft, 1941) studied Dutch language and literature in Leiden. As a writer, he has won numerous awards in his career, such as the Edmund Hustinckes Prize in 1986. Later he was president of the Literary Rights Authors Foundation, a writers’ copyright organization. In 2002, Hollerhoek was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau and was made an honorary member of the League of Men of Letters for services to Dutch authors and translators.
A famous screenplay award is named after Holierhoek: the Kees Holierhoek Screenplay Award, formerly known as the Lira Screenplay Award. It amounts to 15,000 euros.
