Samsung has released a beta version of the Expert RAW app for Galaxy S21 Ultra owners. This allows users with all four cameras of the device to take raw photos consisting of multiple shots. Pro Mode functions are also available.

Currently, the Pro mode, in which it is possible to take raw photos and change settings manually, is only available for the primary camera and the Ultra Wide Angle camera of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung says it will soon also want to bring Pro Mode to telephoto cameras. In the Expert RAW app, It was released as a beta version in South KoreaRaw images can already be taken using telephoto cameras.

Expert RAW is only available through the Galaxy Store for the Galaxy S21 Ultra with Android 12. The app was also released in South Korea only, but Twitter user Tron has an apk and put the associated Lightroom profile online.

According to GSM ArenaExpert RAW app, which tested the feature, captured images combining multiple snapshots into a 16-bit DNG file. As a result, the same HDR effects can be obtained as with jpg files, with the advantage of a raw file with a higher color depth, which makes post-processing possible. This is similar to Apple’s ProRAW format.
