The Russian military fired on Ukraine’s Kherson province last night and again this morning. The district governor, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported that Russia used artillery, missiles and drones, among other things. One person was killed and at least five were injured.

Kherson, the capital of the province of the same name, is regularly subjected to Russian attacks, but today’s attacks were relatively widespread. The night attack coincides with the first anniversary of the liberation of Kherson by the Ukrainian army, on November 11, 2022.

AFP – Kherson residents celebrate the one-year anniversary of its liberation at the hands of the Ukrainian army. Celebrations were disrupted last night and this morning due to a large-scale Russian attack.

The Dnipro River, which flows through the city, is the dividing line between territory occupied by Russia and territory under Ukrainian control. At the end of October, Ukrainian soldiers crossed the river north of Kherson and managed to establish a bridgehead. From there, Ukraine is now trying to chase the Russians from the banks of the Dnipro River. The Russian bombing of Kherson continues unabated.

The head of the military administration in Kherson said that the dead man was a 64-year-old man who was working in his garden when he was hit by artillery fire. The Kherson Regional Library was also hit by a missile. The building caught fire and was severely damaged.
