Police in Rio de Janeiro are investigating the organization behind the Taylor Swift concert that left one person dead last week. An investigation is underway into whether Time for Fun (T4F) endangered human lives.
Ana Clara Benevides, 23, died at the ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. The city suffered from extreme heat, with wind chill temperatures reaching 59 degrees. About a thousand concertgoers fainted from the heat and Benevides fell ill just before the show began and later died on his way to the hospital. Taylor Swift postponed her upcoming concert a day later.
Despite the extreme heat, the American star’s fans were not allowed to bring water bottles to the stadium. The police said in a statement: “The organizers of the event were summoned to hand over evidence, and an investigation is underway to determine the facts.” A second investigation has also been opened into Benevides’ death.
The organization admits: it should have been done differently
T4F says it is cooperating fully with authorities and says it is available to make statements. CEO Seraphim Abreu now admits that the organization “should have acted differently” in dealing with frenzied fans.
Taylor Swift is currently touring the world with The Eras Tour. T4F is responsible for organizing the three shows of that tour in Brazil. Tomorrow is Taylor Swift’s last concert in Brazil, in Sao Paulo. Weather conditions are now more suitable for fans: it is cloudy and rainy and the temperature is still around 28 degrees, but the perceived temperature is no longer as extreme as it was last week.
