Pittsburgh – Acknowledgment that it does not speak in ‘Limitations’ or ‘Warranties’, Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger He said Monday night against the Cleveland Browns will likely be his last home game of the regular season with the franchise.
“Looking at the bigger picture, I’d say all the signs are that this might be — the regular season, that is,” Roethlisberger said Thursday. “I know we still have a chance to have a playoff there if things fall our way and we care about business and things happen. In the grand scheme of things, in terms of regular seasons, the signs are pointing in the direction that this could be.”
Roethlisberger, who returned this year after an off-season pay cut, played his entire 18-year career with the Steelers after being drafted 11th overall in the 2004 class.
Roethlisberger had not previously publicly acknowledged that the 2021 season would be the last, but had been in the organization for some time, and he began telling some in the organization and his former teammates of his plans earlier this month, sources told Adam of ESPN Shifter.
“It’s almost 18 years and half of my life I gave to this city, this team, these fans,” said the 39-year-old midfielder. “But the fun thing is, I know I still have in the tank to go there this week and next week and give everything I have to do everything in my power to get us into the post-season. That’s always the ultimate goal, to win us Lombardy. That’s still My goal. We are not out of this thing yet.”
The stakes which will likely be his last home game of the regular season are high. The Steelers are out of the playoffs two weeks ago. But a win over the Browns — a division competitor who finished his season a year ago in the first round of the playoffs — will keep the Steelers alive in their post-season search, while eliminating Brown from the competition.
“My focus is to win this match. If this is my last game of the regular season here, it will be one of the most important matches of my career. I have been very fortunate to play in front of the best fans in all sports. The best place. What better way to play a match. Possible in the last regular season of Monday night football against an opponent in the division. It’s just a special way.”
