PostNL is more affected by high inflation than the company previously thought. The consumer orders fewer packages, while the costs go up. The Postal Company reported Friday morning that the result in the third quarter is likely to be lower than previously expected.
Things like energy and groceries have become more expensive lately. As a result, Dutch demand is less online. This means PostNL has to deliver fewer parcels, which leads to disappointing returns. At the same time, fuel costs and wages, among other things, are rising.
This puts pressure on the company’s profitability. This is why PostNL would like to hire fewer new employees in the near future. The company also wants to cut other costs and increase prices for online stores. No further price increase is planned for consumers, except for what was recently announced to rise It will come into effect next year.
The company expects to incur a loss of close to 1 million euros on parcel delivery in the third quarter. The number of parcels delivered was likely 1.1 percent lower than the previous year. PostNL will release final numbers for the third quarter on November 7.
