Microsoft Will Launch Accessible Xbox Adaptive Joystick Controller Next Year – Gaming – News

Microsoft will release the Xbox Adaptive Joystick controller early next year. The accessible controller is designed for gamers with limited mobility. According to the manufacturer, the device is priced at $30.

Microsoft describes the Xbox Adaptive Joystick As a “partner” to existing Xbox controllers. The Adaptive Joystick can connect directly to the Xbox Adaptive Controller, but can also be connected to an Xbox console or PC via USB-C. The device will then need to be paired with another Xbox controller, which can be used to navigate menus and access the “Nexus” button. The joystick then provides four additional buttons, two triggers, and a joystick.

The device should allow players to use the controller without needing both hands. Users can hold the adaptive joystick, but they can also mount it on a stable surface such as a table. This can be done via “any mounting bracket” with a standard 1/4″-20 thread.

According to Microsoft, all of the buttons on the Adaptive Joystick are reprogrammable, just like the existing Adaptive Controller. The joystick supports multiple profiles, each with its own settings. Users can reprogram buttons and switch between profiles using Xbox Accessories App.

The tech giant is also making it possible to do so. High Hats Thumb Stick To be designed through the Xbox Design Lab. This allows users to adjust the size of the joystick for easier use. It is not possible to order thumbstick covers from Microsoft. Instead, users can download their designs and 3D print them themselves.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller will be available in “early 2025” in “select Xbox markets.” Microsoft didn’t say which countries exactly it’s interested in. The device will then be sold exclusively through the Microsoft Store. The tech giant has been offering accessible controllers for some time. The company introduced the Xbox Adaptive Controller in 2018, which features two large buttons, a directional pad, a few other buttons, and 19 ports for accessories. Sony released the Accessibility Controller for the PS5 late last year, which also focuses on accessibility.
