Marco Schweitmaker wins prestigious Edison Prize: “I was initially hesitant about launching Guardian Angel”

Marco Schweitmaker (24) from Pez won an Edison in the ‘Dutch’ class tonight. The music award is also called the Dutch Grammy and has been awarded since 1960.

Schweitmaker received the bronze statue, created by sculptor Peter Daunt, this evening at the AFAS Theater in Lusden. Later in the evening, the new Edison winner was a guest on the talk show Humberto to talk, among other things, about the creation of the song with which he became a hit: Guardian Angel.

“The best part is that this song was recorded a while ago, but I hesitated for another six months to release it. But it finally happened and what happened to me then was a real rollercoaster,” he says briefly.

In addition to Schweitmaker, two other people from Drenthe were nominated for the Edison Prize: Hannah May (best newcomer) from Werdinge and Paul de Monique (Dutch-speaking), who currently lives in Maple. They didn’t win any awards tonight.

The two most important awards for best album and best single went to Saif, respectively (I could die for many things but not for science(and son of Mayo)Tonight). Last week Jan Smit won the Edison Oever Award.
