Info: Meta Halts Development of Advanced Mixed Reality Headset – Games – News

Meta will stop developing a high-end mixed reality headset that was supposed to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro, The Information reports. The site says the headset will use Micro OLED displays, but that would make it very expensive.

The information is written based on two anonymous sources. Meta has halted work on its high-end headset. The employees of its Reality Labs virtual reality division are being asked to stop designing, a decision that comes directly from Mark Zuckerberg and CTO Andrew Bosworth. This relates to work on the headset, which has the working title La Jolla and was previously announced for release in 2027.

The La Jolla headset should be a mixed reality headset comparable to Apple’s Vision Pro headset. According to The Edge Meta is aiming for a headset that costs less than $1,000, but that won’t work out, mainly because the micro-OLED displays on the headset will be expensive.

Meta has not officially commented on the news, but Andrew Bosworth has. writes on topicsWithout mentioning the specific glasses, the company “has several prototypes in development” and in some cases doesn’t actually launch them.
