“It makes me more emotional than I expected,” Humphries said after the ceremony, carrying the American flag around his shoulder. “I trusted my application and I know I met all the requirements, but you’re not sure. It’s a long journey and I’m so glad I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”

Humphreys won gold in the Two-Man Pop category at the 2010 and 2014 Games. Pyongyang won bronze in 2018. Humphries, who won four world titles in two-man pop, carried the Canadian flag at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Games in Sochi. Earlier this year, he became the first world champion in monopoly to be part of the Olympic program for the first time in Beijing.
