Kaylee Humphreys won two Olympic titles for Bobsley at Canada, but will compete under the American flag at the Winter Games in Beijing early next year. Humphries, 36, is now an official U.S. citizen. Bobsleigh has been competing for ‘Team USA’ in international tournaments since 2019, but to play for the Americans in the games as well, he had to be officially normalized.
Born in Canada from Calgary, she married an American and has lived in the United States since 2016. Humphreys left the Canadian federation in 2019 after filing charges of verbal and emotional abuse against his former coach. He has been playing for the United States since then.
“It makes me more emotional than I expected,” Humphries said after the ceremony, carrying the American flag around his shoulder. “I trusted my application and I know I met all the requirements, but you’re not sure. It’s a long journey and I’m so glad I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”
Humphreys won gold in the Two-Man Pop category at the 2010 and 2014 Games. Pyongyang won bronze in 2018. Humphries, who won four world titles in two-man pop, carried the Canadian flag at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Games in Sochi. Earlier this year, he became the first world champion in monopoly to be part of the Olympic program for the first time in Beijing.
